Prior,to that,Smith had enjoyed a Great Britain "hit" with the Mighty Del Reys, and as a solo artist.

He went on to play, tour or travel with such as Brenda Holloway,Martha and the Vandellas, Spinners, David Ruffin (shortly after leaving the Temptations), David Clayton Thomas's Second Magnificent Sanctuary Band, (after David's leaving Blood,Sweat,and Tears for a few years), and again, the Johnny Otis Show, before concentrating on "session playing", producing,and "the legal side".

Smith & Friends concentrate on Black Catholic gospel (including tracks with Speaking Drums), because the genre proves still ill served.
