Band/artist history
This four-piece hard rock band known as 3against1 is both confrontational and fiercely democratic. Hailing from the punk/indie-rock hotbed of San Diego, CA, the group formed in 2001 and proceeded to earn a reputation for musical non-conformity. Composing and performing radio-ready modern rock ballads, 3against1 originals like "My Machine," "A Day In The Life" and "Weight of the World" were more like hit-and-run assaults -- high-impact rock anthems that creatively showcased the soulful vocals of Mark Weiss, the stun-chord assaults of guitarist Arnaud Lemaire and the hypnotic rhythms of bassist Ryan Gonzalez and drummer Curt Minerd. The band took a similar take-no-prisoners approach to business, managing themselves, booking their own gigs, paying for their own recordings, promoting their own shows and maintaining an informative, fan-interactive website.
Before long, 3against1 had cultivated a rabid fan base and achieved a list of accomplishments that would flatter many major label bands, much less an unsigned group. In January 2005, the band was named the winner of the Zippo Hot Tour (www.zippohottour.com), an unsigned band competition that featured over 1,200 acts from across the US. 3against1 also took "Best Rock Band" at the 2004 San Diego Music Awards. Gamers are familiar with the single "It's Over," licensed to THQ's "MX Unleashed" on PS2 and Xbox, as well as MTV "Road Rules" and "Real World." Budweiser signed the band to the "Bud True Music Live" program, making them the only San Diego rock band with that sponsorship. Their move to L.A. was a natural progression; one that has them making converts in the storied rock venues of Hollywood.
The L.A. music scene has embraced them in clubs like The Key Club, The Roxy, The Gigwhich showcases the band’s popular live performances on the Internetand the famous Viper Room, where they pack the crowd and keep them humming along. As Bob Leggett of “Music Connection” put it: “It was obvious that 3against1 enjoyed sharing their music, and the audience returned the energy, singing back the lyrics at the top of their collective voices. With a unique sound that is presented balls-to-the-wall, 3agaqinst1 have blasted into the L.A. music market.” The band has recently signed with Victoria Blake Management. And they also received accolades on the popular Camp Freddy radio show (103.1) from Velvet Revolver’s own Matt Sorum, who said, “ . . .they’re making cool sounds out of my studio . . .it’s actually really good.”
While all the recognition is gratifying, it simply validates what founding members Weiss and Lemaire knew all along: that 3against1 is not just a band, but a relentless force of nature that will not be denied. That unshakeable faith in their musical mission is embodied in their name. "It's more like a statement of how this band operates," singer and co-writer Mark Weiss says of the name, 3against1. "In this band ‘majority rules.' From songwriting to arrangements and business decisions, everything in this band revolves around that philosophy."
Fans can now purchase this musical 3against1 experience on iTunes, napster, Rhapsody and other electronic outlets. They recently placed a song on the official soundtrack to the forthcoming feature film, "Cruel World," (Maverick Films and Primetime Pictures) featuring Edward Furlong, Susan Ward, and Jaime Pressley. It's just another triumph in the ongoing saga of 3against1, a passionate and intensely creative band that is determined to win success on their own, uncompromising termsYour musical influences
