Avant Rock

1000 Locks is a five piece Rock band that incorporates various styles such as Pop, Metal, Jazz, Funk, and Electronica into their music. They currently have two albums released independently (Pop Debris, 2007 and Skeptical Outlook 2008)
Band/artist history
1000 Locks formed in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2003. Founding members are Gato (guitar & vocals), Javier (drums), Ariel (bass) Mariano (Keyboards) and Gretel Vaa (guitar, keyboards and back vocals) Shortly after they begun performing Gretel was replaced by Mirna After one year of playing gigs and recording some demos in Buenos Aires, Gato and Mirna moved to New York City were they joined forces with drummer Bruno, bass player Hermida and keyboard player JM Parra and finished recording their first independent album "Pop Debris" at The Sonic Arts Studios in Harlem. Immediately after this, Darren J came in replacement of Bruno in drums... They played several local venues, specially in Queens and The Bronx. In April 2008, they finished recording their second album "Skeptical Outlook" in London, where Gato and Mirna reunited with Javier and added two new members, guitarist John Lambert and bass player Melvin Johnson. The fact that several band members are establshed in different countries didn't yet prove to be and impediment for keeping everybody updated with the material thanks to the internet and proved to work at the beginning of 2008 when Rodrigo and Javier joined forces with the "New York Branch" in the Big Apple for a couple of small gigs and recordings... The bands many influences span from hard rockers such as Metallica or Queens of The Stone Age to electronic rock such as NIN or the late Radiohead... Most musicians in the band have some kind of either classical or jazz music education which in time translates into the music as well. Among fan favorites are the funky abstract allegory "Procrastination", the trashy rock sound of "Numb Lips, Numb..." and the hazy ballad "South Magnetic Pole" from the first album and the straight forward "Filler Song" and schizophrenic "Ego Booster" from the second one. Lyrics usually talk in a not-too-direct manner (although sometimes very direct) about pop culture, politics, personal disputes and sexual affairs. Vocalist Gato's mix of spanish, german and new yorker accent and richly chromatic melodies lean on a somewhat chaotic jungle of guitars coming in and out to cut the often sarcastic keyboard sounds, the groovy bass lines and hybrid yet solid drums. The end result is a powerful yet melodic approach at the service of Rock Music
Have you performed in front of an audience?
The band has been in a hiatus since the beginning of this year. Hopefully we get the band back together to perform some of the old and new songs again, although geografic distances now have become an issue... Probably our best gigs were in Buenos Aires with the old line-up. The crowd in south america is just amazing.
