ZUBAANI
ZUBAANI comprising the young and versatile duo of Girish Prabhu (vocals, lyrics and guitars) and Kenneth Rao (guitars and keyboards), makes its foray into Hindi Rock this year with the debut album, Zubaani. They were adjudged the BREAKTHROUGH ARTIST of the MONTH in August on WORLDSPACE Radio. And their songs have also been playing on RadioCity 91.1 FM all over India.
Girish and Kenny have come a long way from being just music-loving undergraduates to being fresh engineers out to create their niche in Hindi music. Music has always featured in their lives - Girish has been passionate about singing from childhood, and he and Kenny have been playing the guitar from their school days. They ventured into the scene as members of a college band Enpsychopedia, formed in 2003, alongwith two friends pursuing engineering in the same college, all sharing a passion for western hard rock. The band was soon participating in, and winning most inter-collegiate competitions in South India. Enpsychopedia also went on to perform at corporate venues and clubs, on invitation! The young musicians ventured into composing and playing their songs at live shows, receiving very postive feedback from huge audiences. In late 2005, the band was interviewed by a local TV channel in Bangalore and then approached by the art director of the same channel, to compose a Hindi song for his video concept. It was at this point that Girish and Kenny realized their versatility, and ZUBAANI was born. Subsequent long hours were spent in the home studio, composing and learning home-recording techniques. As they neared their graduation, the duo had already composed and recorded three songs of their own in their home-studio, despite the lack of formal training of any sort! Following their graduation from engineering college in 2006, Girish and Kenny tried being 'regular' engineers with 9-5 jobs, but soon realized their passion for music ran much deeper than most. Before long, they were back in the home studio for good, composing new songs and re-recording the older ones, after gathering feedback from various musicians in the field. By mid-June 2007, Zubaani was ready with its debut album of the same name.
