Zoey's Closet

ormerly known as Holler, Zoey's Closet is ready to release the new album Dear Diary in September 2007. Final decisions are currently being made on when and where their CD release party will take place. We have had a long journey to put this album out. Luck hasn't been on our side for the past couple of years, but with a new album, name and band line-up we are feeling re-energized and excited about this release. The title 'Dear Diary' tells exactly what the album is about. The experiences (good and bad) that have happened to us over the past 2 years has made for a incredibly real and strong sounding album. We couldn't be more proud of it or the fact that it actually made it to print.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
For The Record Zoey's Closet is and has always been an independent band looking for recognition as well as representation. When given the opportunity to showcase their songs both live and on air,the music has shown itself extremely well busting into music charts with ease. At Garageband.com Zoeys Closet (Holler) hold the #14 spot for song 'On and On' as best alternative rock song of ALL TIME. They also hit other genres' top 10 with more than one of their singles. Prince Georges 94XFM kept them in the top 40 for 5 months with two singles hitting at #2 and #5. Reginas 104.9FM The Wolf added Holler to their regular rotation creating another top 10 that created such a buzz, it launched the band to Toronto and across international borders. Sioux City Iowas Z95 radio station is awaiting the release of Dear Diary to feed the Holler fans, as the previous album was very popularwith their audiences, reaching top spots as well. Seattles web station The Edge, had single On and On as one of their most requested. Zoeys Closet (as Holler) has showcased at the legendary Trubadour in Hollywood C.A. and played a private showcase in NYC. CD sales have reflected the bands popularity as they held the #1 best seller for 6 weeks in a row at the local CDplus store in Regina, outselling Nickleback and legendary Johnny Cash. Prairies North magazine (spring 2007) named the band in their Top 50 Rising Stars. The Album Zoeys Closet is releasing their second album 2 years entitled Dear Diary in September of 2007. The album is a fusion of experiences from a band that has seen unusually bad luck in their development. From finding out that their manager was an ex-convict for multi million dollar fraud charges, who used the hopes of young indie bands as nothing short of a tax credit, to guitarist Brad Taylor narrowly escaping injury by a girl that jumped from the roof of their 21story hotel in Toronto during Canadian Music Week, this album is packed full of meaning as well as angst. Punchy guitar riff work, solid beats and powerfully sweet vocals are still the forefront in creating Zoeys Closets unique and edgy sound. Some of the tracks for Dear Diary were recorded at Bennett Studios in New Jersey, and a few at MCC Studio in Calgary, but the majority of the record was recorded, produced and engineered primarily out of Hollermusic Studios, the small studio that Brad and Trish own. Relying mostly on themselves, Zoeys Closet is able to move forward independently. As a result, Zoeys Closet has greater confidence and is focused on a successful career in music. The Writers Writing a recording out of High River Alberta, Brad Taylor and Trish Evans are the driving force behind Zoeys Closet. Individually, they are powerful and confident composers but as a team, they are able to produce and engineer music that audiences are drawn to. Their writing process has been quoted as a very smooth and very enjoyable process. They have been collaborating since 2002 and show no signs of stopping. Session player, free-lance musician, composer, piano instructor, performer, singer, all describe lead singer Trish Evans. Trained in jazz Piano, music performance and composition, majoring in music education and conducting all work their way to formulate a unique sound for Zoeys Closet. She is able to captivate listeners with her unique sound and dynamic stage presence. In a male-dominated industry, her voice carries over and above what listeners are used to hearing. Brad Taylor has been playing guitar and writing music for most of his life. After playing in various bands and involved with various projects, Brad decided to focus his talent inward and develop his own unique style of writing and producing. It is very seldom that you see him away from his home recording studio, as he spends endless hours creating and developing new music and sounds. Asked why he put aside his mainstream lifestyle and risked everything on the creation of Holler and Zoeys Closet, Brad said, Nothing else was meeting up to the challenge. Everything always came back to music, its what I do. Brad is currently engineering at MCC Studios in Calgary.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Yes. Any rock gig available. Love it and each night has something special to it.
Your musical influences
Whether we agree with it or not, we get compared a lot to evanescence. I think because there's not a lot of girls singing 'nicely' over heavy guitars.
