I'm basically a keyboardist that's been playing for some time, (alright, a LONG time ago, back when ARP's and MOOGS ruled the land....). When I was playing for scratch, I ran an ARP odyssey and a Roland VK1 organ. Later on, I got an ensoniq sq1+, it had a sequencer...*yay!* I still have it. My career was interupted with a really bad accident, (I'm lucky to be walking normal now), and by the time I could even think about getting back into music, a lot of time had passed. Anolog was basically going digital, but it gave me an opportunity to afford playing again. When I got into computers, I got into playing soundfonts on my soundblaster. Then softsynths started to come out. Primitive and cycle sucking, but hopeful. Then the good stuff started to come out. Oh my, I wasn't about to let everybody else have all the fun. Oh, and cudos to my sister without whom this would not be possible. She got me into computers in the first place..... So I'm making the transition to digital. My head hurts, but I've loved every moment of it.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Band history, oh my........... I'm old, and trying to rebreak into an industry dominated by youth. They don't need to worry as much about getting a heat attack when hauling their instruments.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Yes, I've been playing live more and more, and I love to do that. It's why I play in general. Where? Wherever I can..... Special Moments? Uh, I had a bass player freeze onstage like a deer in the headlights and run offstage. That was a special moment.....
Your musical influences
When I was young, rock. Now, electronica, dance, ambient. I like: Audio Bullies, Bt, Martin Gretch, Lambchop(as quirky as I am),Orbital,The Distillers, Dropkick Murphies, Cake, Juno Reactor, Joe Satriani, Yes, Emerson Lake and Palmer,Sufjan Stevens, and a ton others. I have one rule though, I never buy an album more than 5 years old, unless it's a used copy. I play a lot of new age, but surprisingly, I don't listen to it often.
What equipment do you use?
Three softwares, Reason 4.0, Reaktor 5, and Live 6, (yeah, I'll get around to 7 one of these days...). My keyboard is an m-audio Keystation Pro 88, (tons of midi control, and I like the heavy action), and my trusty and beloved ensoniq sq1+ Believe it or not, I still have my Roland VK1 organ, I'm rebuilding it, it really was, (and still is), an excellent Hammond B3 copy.
Anything else?
It's going to be awhile before my music is up. The learning curve has been, well challenging, and my brain is less flexible then it used to be. Oh, by the way...... I refuse to grow up...........
