Youth in Asia 888 is Roger L. Su, D.C.
Hello, I'm Roger and I'm a Chiropractor from Los Angeles, CA.Band/artist history
Back in High School I was in the marching band (trombone). I found out that a few of my band mates played the guitar, drums, and bass. I had been studying classical piano since I was seven, and I asked my parents if they would get me a Juno 106. Well, they did (Thanks MOM and DAD!) and we formed a rock band. We played some cover songs, but the thing that really got me excited was the aspect of creating our own original music (which we called "originals"). So we came up with our own tunes, practiced all summer and played our first gig the first week of school. Granted, it was the end of that band because it was off to college. Midi was around and I wanted to continue my music endeavors so I had dreams of doing electronic music. Working as a tutor, I saved up money and got a DX7. By this time, I had met some other friends in college with music interests and we formed a band, playing at various college gigs. Then it was off to graduate school, where I met yet another group of musical people. They had a a wedding band that catered towards the Asian crowd so I joined them and played for about 3 years. Upon graduating, I left music behind altogether to build my practice. So about 10 years go by and I pick up a copy of Keyboard Magazine after not reading the rag for 10 years. I was completely blown away by the stuff I read and saw. So a trip to Guitar Center and an empty wallet brings me back to making some music....which I am thoroughly enjoying!Have you performed in front of an audience? The last gig I played at was a t a Vietnamese wedding......about 1000 people. Near the end, they asked for some covers....one in particular, a Michael Bolton song that nobady knew, except I knew the melody so we improvised...Horrible!
Your musical influences
Well, I have at one time or another, lke everything. Currently, I like the pop stuff on the radio, classical music, industrial, soundtrack music...What equipment do you use?
For my techno tracks, mainly the Triton Studio and the effects from the D1600 recorder.Anything else?
If I were to pursue music as a career, I would probably focuc on tv drama soundtracks, especially in the Asian market, or compose soundtracks for anime.Admin
