Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Marcus Morgan, A.K.A Young Poppa, is a fifteen-year-old native of Washington D.C. Dealt the hand of overcoming a severe illness as a child; Marcus was in and out of the hospital at an early age. Fortunately, he would later overcome his illness and began to live the life as any ordinary child would. At the tender age of ten, Marcus began to experiment with writing poetry in order to better express and relate his trials and tribulations to both himself and others. His powerful usage of words effectively touched a broad spectrum of people, ranging from his peers to many adults as well. The respectful and polite approach that Marcus used in both his writings and performances served as a necessary platform approach to attract many to his aptitude.
At the age of fourteen, like a good number of inner city youth tragedy struck when Marcus lost one of his brothers to the legal system, and the other in gun crossfire. As Marcus struggled with overcoming these obstacles placed before him, he became more and more focused on his writing ability, jotting down all of the thoughts and dreams he would have of his brothers and the success soon to take place. Out of this sudden tragedy, emerged a strong young man with impeccable artistic ability. Out of this tragedy, emerged Young Poppa. Young Poppa began to develop his existing poems as well as most recent thoughts into songs that showed emotions. I learned from my brothers mistakes/from the moves that they made/I choose the right path/now I know the rules of the game/ Their the reason Im embracing this pain and breaking the chain as well as his hunger to become one of the greatest lyricists to ever touch a MIC. As his love for music and writing deepened, he broadened his nickname into a well-known stage name through involvement in various contests and battles. The soon to be legend Young Poppa has been described by many as a person with integrity, leadership, self-confidence, humility and a well grounded mind frame. Marcus A.K.A Young Poppa vows his success to his very supportive parents, Mr. and Mrs. Myron and Diane Morgan, who taught him by example to become the well, respected and well-mannered person he is today.
Currently, Young Poppa is working under Hold Ya Head Entertainment L.L.C to release his first album, and street mix tape hosted by the street wars mixtape king himself P-Cutta. The mix features guest appearances by J records recording artist Shells Harsh Reality and WKYS' own Zxulu the big lip banded. The release date for the mixtape is set for the end of summer.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Yes, I Do perform currently I'm in all types of major battles all over the U.S Im currently the cipher champ on 93.9 WKYS in Washington DC Be sure to check me out every Friday @ 8:30pm
Your musical influences
In addition to Young Poppas vast exposure to lifes trials in tribulations at a early age, his lyrical influences include: the slick word play of the late great Notorious B.I.G, furthermore the complexity and originality of Tu Pac shakure including the rapid flow and intensity of DMX with the smooth GQ delivery of Jay-Z
