Young Kob

Minneapolis has a new voice in hip-hop. Known for it's thriving "backpack hip-hop" scene, there is a void for an entertaining, fun having, east coast style emcee. With a cocky swagger, Kob admits he's "what would happen if Lloyd Banks and Fabolous were white". Always an entertainer, most of his songs are club songs, and other radio friendly joints. Recently, Kob signed on with local hip-hop legend Tommy Real (of Young & Da Restless), with his Real Explicit Music team. After hitting the mixtape circuit, Young Kob is hitting the scene this winter with his debut album "Formal Introduction", with guests appearences by D.C., Artofact, Tommy Real and Face Off. Also in the future, the remix to Houston rapper Lil' Rob's hit single "Summer Nights" will feature a 16 from Minneapolis' sexiest voice, to be heard later this fall.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Began emceeing at age 11 with the group Strangaz which later became J-Tee & Kobi. Went solo and honed his skill through the Minneapolis High School battle circuit. Signed on with Ill Concept Records in July 2003. Released "Kobi Mixtape Vol's 1 and 2" in 2003 and Early 2004. Met up with M Eazy and Marcus Ferguson and created landmark mixtape "Ethinomicks" in February 2005. Was picked up by Real Explicit Music in June of 2005.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
