Cincinnati-born producer, Young Ex, has accomplished more at his young age than most producers imagine. His signature style and innovative fusion of sound keep him ahead of the curve; launching him to the top of the list when it comes to up-an-coming producers in the Urban market today.
Starting off as an artist himself, performing at mid-western talent shows and freestyle battles, he understands the production side not only as an engineer and producer but as an artist as well. As an artist he faced the same frustrations that turn many an artist into a producer. Frustrated with having to depend on other producers and not being taken seriously, he saved up enough money to buy his first piece of equipment.
A raggedy microphone, an OLD white Dell computer, and two software programs that changed my life, Ex recounts. Equipped with the tools that would mold his future, endless nights and hard work transformed him into the producer and engineer he is today.
Inspired by his passion for production he took things to the next level by networking and progressing within the industry; it wasnt long before he landed an intern position at WIZF in Cincinnati, OH. While he was working with the well-known hip-hop station, he developed his skills even further and created his own tag Thats A Star Move. The tag took off almost over-night, spreading through the streets and making Young Ex a highly sought after producer in The Midwest. In an industry before Tags were commonplace, he created a way for his beats to be recognized beyond the artist that was singing over them. You no longer had to ask Hey, who mixed that? it was right there in the song!
It wasnt long before the budding producer caught the ear of Industry producer and heavy-hitter Hi-Tek; whose credits include 50 Cent, G-Unit, Mos Def, Snoop Dogg, Young Buck, and Trick Daddy. Hi-Tek offered Ex a contract to not only produce, but also come on board as a songwriter for his company. Ex took his career options seriously and decided to go to school for his craft at The Art Institute of Atlanta.
Everyone knows Atlanta is the place to be today if you want to network and make it into the urban market as a producer. They call it Hot-lanta for a reason! His instincts proved correct, and Atlanta proved to be the exact right next step for the young producer. Since his move he has worked with several industry artists such as DJ Unk, 2 Pistols, F.L.Y., and many more. Proving he can take any great artist to the next level, he is the official producer for Stuey Rock.
I write, produce, and mix my OWN records. Thats whats going to make me stand out, that and much more.
Exs inspiration comes from a fusion of different sounds, from David Guetta and Ryan Leslie to Nard & B and Timbaland.
I want to be bigger than them! Everyday Im working hard and listening to my competition, trying to understand why people buy their albums, what makes their beats hot enough... Im working hard to out beat them. Outdo their grind! Ex says.
Separating himself from an overflowing market of producers who stay with one kind of sound, Ex is not afraid to try new things, new sounds, and different Genres. From humble beginnings to super-star colleagues, this confident young man is taking over; producing the future hits of our dreams!
Its not what you know, and its damn sure not WHO you know... but WHO knows YOU! - Young Ex
