Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Yard Sail is a high-energy quartet that is breaking the mold and making a name for themselves in the Pacific Northwest. The main genres in which they derive their influences are Punk, Reggae, and Alternative Rock. Yard Sail harnesses an explosive energy both in their songs and live performances. Concert goers all agree that catchy hooks and anthem style vocal participation are what keep them coming back again and again. They have been working together for 3 years and have shown the local scene, as well as the national scene, how well rehearsed, professional and creative they are on and off the stage. Yard Sail has many influences as they hope to one day become influential as well. Bands such as Sublime, Authority Zero, NOFX, MXPX, Reel Big Fish, Grinspoon, and even Spokane locals, Civilized Animal. With ease, they connect all of these influences, while maintaining to keep a sound and musicianship that is all their own. A danceable, reggae flavor is incorporated into their music, bringing excitement and energy to their live shows. The talented acts that Yard Sail has had the privelege of sharing the stage with are: Civilized Animal, Ten Minutes Down, The Independents, UK Subs, Five Foot Thick, and Long Beach Shortbus. Performing with a variety of local bands has also given them an edge on networking and establishing credability in the area. The highlight at one local show was hosting Authority Zero's (Lava Records) front man, Jason Devore onto the stage to share a few songs. Like we always say, anything can happen at a YS show. Their heartfelt lyrics and positive tone allow them to reach people of any genre or age. By sharing their true emotions towards real-life issues, their audience can relate to every song. Experiences that every human has dealt with range from the struggle of finding success (OAO), death of a family member (HEY JOHN), and heartache (LET YOU GO). They also touch on a political note in realizing the pain of war (ARMAGEDDON POLICY), and the possibility of dis-involvement (ITS NOT YOUR WAR). Yard Sail has drawn crowds since they originally formed as a college punk rock band. As they began moving towards the city and the many other music venues Spokane had to offer, they began building their fan base and networking with the locals. An average show consists of 150-200 YS supporters and that number continues to grow. They have been spreading their message by the promotion of local shows, radio, print and the internet. Yard Sail is currently working towards there third E.P. and are continually booking shows across the Inland Northwest.
