Worwyk is back with a new singer, new songs and a new attitude!
Worwyk (pron. war-wick) plays authentic heavy metal combining melodic, semi-technical riffs with scorching solos and both clean and aggressive vocals. The band is strictly a studio project, fronted by Tom Vitacco, a musician based in the suburbs of Chicago. After playing in a couple of local Chicago metal bands, Tom found he enjoyed the recording aspect more than trying to keep a band together, so he built a small home studio to record his music. Tom writes all the music for Worwyk, and handles all the mixing, mastering and artwork for the band. Since the band is a studio project only, Worwyk does not play live.
The new album, Malignant, is the highly anticipated follow up to In Solitude (2006) and features new vocalist Jason Russo (formally of Herod and Darkling). The album has 10 new songs of true metal highlighted by Jason's dynamic vocals and Tom's crunching yet melodic guitar work. Lyrically, the album continues to deal with topical themes, including medicine, religion, abuse and tragic human behavior. This is also the first Worwyk disc with no instrumental song! For fans of Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Judas Priest, Metallica, Death, Iced Earth, Kreator...or really anyone into metal!!!
Stay metal and thanks for the interest in Worwyk...
Tom and Jason (Worwyk)
Band/artist history
Worwyk plays authentic heavy metal combining melodic, semi-technical riffs with scorching solos and both clean and aggressive vocals.
Tom's biggest disappointment with Worwyk in the past has always been the vocals. He handled all the vocals over the years mainly because it was convenient, but he always thought his tunes would sound much better with a real vocalist. As he started to write new music in 2005, he decided it was time to look for someone new to sing on the tunes. Tom always stayed on top of technology and noticed how the internet was changing how home recording was done, especially in terms of working with musicians from different parts of the country. He frequented many online collaboration sites and saw how musicians were jamming together online, and the more he read up on the topic, the more interested he became in trying it out.
In 2006, Worwyk began searching for a metal vocalist whose voice would fit the new tracks being written - someone with an aggressive, modern voice that was clean enough to be understood while rough enough to blend in perfectly with Tom's riffs. While online, Tom came across the band Dragonlips, which was also a one-man project band fronted by Mike O'Hara and based in Pennsylvania. Tom really liked the tunes and thought Mike's voice was exactly what he was looking for, so he contacted him to see if he would be interested in collaborating on the disc. Mike agreed to sing on the disc and the collaboration turned out excellent. The result was called In Solitude (released in late 2006) and it featured eight tracks of modern metal with an old-school vibe, perfectly complemented by Mike's aggressive yet comprehensible vocals.
Tom worked on new music in 2008 and eventually Mike told Tom he wouldn't have time to sing on the new songs. Mike and Tom discussed the options and decided it would be best if Worwyk found a new vocalist so Tom began the search for a new singer and came across the myspace page of Jason Russo (formally of Herod and Darkling). He contacted Jason, asked if he was interested and once Jason was able to set up a home studio, he agreed to sing on the new songs.
The new album, Malignant, is the highly anticipated follow up to In Solitude (2006) and features new vocalist Jason Russo. The album has 10 new songs of true metal highlighted by Jason's dynamic vocals and Tom's crunching yet melodic guitar work. You have all the tools - thanks for posting your tunes here!
Tom -thanks for listening to Darkness Eternal, and I appreciate your comments. All the music was recorded between 2002 and 2003. I used a Yamaha synth for drums and synth orchestra, and used a Zoom pedal for guitars. I only started using the internet in 2003, and have only recently got my own PC, an old laptop. Even now we use a Zoom 8-track for recording and mixing, although I use Cool Edit Pro for mastering and making MP3s.
Hello Tom -thanks for the message, and I'm glad you like our new demos. I have more spare time online today, so I'm going through all your music. Although there is a definate Worwyk sound, I haven't once been bored, and I also realise that some of the lyrics come from deep personal experience. However its the guitar riffs which copel me to keep listening, they are so chunky!
PS -you may like some of the music from my solo project (see sig.), although its mostly instrumental -Pete :)
