Wither emerged on the San Diego music scene in early 2001 with a unique form of emotional, melodic and vocally driven rock. People immediately noticed the magnetic presence this group of long time friends was bringing to the stage. Their performances featured memorable songs, a dramatic light show, energetic fans and a larger than life feel. It wasnt long before Wither was playing the top San Diego clubs like Canes, 4th and B, and Brick by Brick. Each Wither show was treated as an event, which its members personally went out and promoted. They not only maintained a presence at their shows, but on the music scene itself. The combination of strong performances and consistent self promotion made them a steadfast force on the SD music scene. In late 2002 the band went into the studio with Steve Russel at Golden Tracks Studios, who have recorded P.O.D and Sepultura among others. The result was an 8 song album titled Origin, which allowed the band to spread their music in ways that had not been possible before. Not long after, Wither was getting song play on local college radio, and major San Diego radio station Rock 105.3. In Hollywood they began playing sunset strip, impressing crowds at The Whisky. Several well known online publications, such as Metal-Observer.com began spreading word about Wither as well. Under the guidance of new management, Wither quickly followed up Origin with a second studio album, Breakthrough. The band went into American Studios to work with the highly decorated platinum record engineer Bill Cooper and Producer Richie Podolor, as well as Producer Richard Carr. Wither had gone through leaps and bounds of musical evolution since their first studio effort, and the extremely well produced Breakthrough captured the radio friendly, yet visionary feel of their current material. To promote the release of Breakthrough, Withers management secured air play on 2 major San Diego radio stations (Rock 105.3 FM, and 92.1 FM), and 3 days of performance as the headlining musical entertainment at the Las Vegas Comic-Con convention at Mandalay Bay, as well as a much hyped CD release party at the famous Whisky A Go Go.
