Band/artist history
The Wild Goose Chasers were formed in January 2003 when CrAzY j contacted Patrick T. It seemed like a good idea to combine the duo's collection of songs into one catalog. This gives the group a more diverse sound, as well as a much larger number of songs to choose from. They added the talents of Brian Schaft, a long time friend of CrAzY j, on drums. Add in the backing vocals of LoCo D and after a couple months of practicing and playing at the local jam nights, they chose 10 songs and brought them to Doug Dostal at Fame City Studio in Maple Heights, Ohio. CrAzY j, being a rather impatient sort, and in agreement with the thought that "life is short", decided it was time to share their first efforts. CrAzY j spent countless hours online trying to find a band name that was not already in use. After having to throw out hundreds of excellent ideas that someone else apparently had first, he gave up in exaustion and exclaimed, "This is just a f*cking Wild Goose Chase!". The name seems to fit after so many years of chasing after a bit of success in the music biz.
Update: Rick Buzzard has joined the band as a second guitar player and a third songwriter. Look for even more from the band this year. The gigs are starting to add up this year as well. The band's habit of playing with other local bands is helping to grow their following into a local scene. Now all we need is a good public transportation service in Cleveland.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We play live anywhere and everywhere. Jam Nights, local clubs, benefit events, your back yard...
Your musical influences
Wild Goose Chasers are influenced by anything that even pretends to be called music. We will listen to anything - at least for 30 seconds or so. If we like the first thirty seconds, we'll listen again. Some of our favorites are unknown independent artists. We grew up with Led Zeppelin, CSN&Y, Lynyrd Skynard, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Yardbirds, Queen, Tom Petty, AC/DC etc,etc,etc... to bring us to present day bands such as Puddle Of Mudd, Agatha Crawl, Gatlin, 3DP, and other hopeful bands from the underground music community in the Northern Ohio area who are trying to pay the bills...for more specific lists see
What equipment do you use?
Patrick T is currently playing 2 Fender American Deluxe Jazz Basses(one four string and one five string) and a classic 1963 Gibson EB-O short scale bass. CrAzY j uses a variety of cheap used guitars, his favorite being a white American Standard Fender Stratocaster. Brian Schaft plays Ludwig and Yamaha drums, along with an assortment of custom percussion instruments, such as garbage can lids, beer cans, old whiskey bottles, goosecalls, and anything else that will stand still long enough to hit it with a stick.
Rick Buzzard plays a Jackson P.O.C. (piece of cr*p) that needed a tremolo spring, now he likes it a lot... He also has a Fender P.O.C. and a Peavey P.O.C.
