AS I AM contains 10 mid-tempo love songs, with elements of pop and jazz. Throughout the album Wendy, shows her ability to sing great soundtrack style ballads such as I Believe" and "Lead Me Home." The melodies are beautiful and almost transcendent. The album moves into a jazzy feel with Meant To Be Together" and Maybe This Time" written by Wendy. She often writes of the hopes for real love and lasting love. The instrumentation on these 2 tunes is fantastic, reminiscent of early Anita Baker music. It is a MUST-HAVE if you are looking for great singing, beautiful melodies and fantastic music
Wendy Alane Wright is a New York born bi-racial singer whose collaboration with Dutch producer Rene van Verseveld and group Def La Desh resulted in several dance, pop and club hits, notably her 1990 single Feel The Rhythm which enjoyed rotation on VH1, BET and MTV. She enjoyed other solo hit singles Unforgiven in 1992. Wright co-wrote, co-produced and performed featured vocals on the Tatjana Simic pop hit Feel Good which went Platinum in Scandinavia.
A sought after vocalist Wendy has worked with many notables including; Candy Dulfer, Johnny Lang, Tony Scott, Wayne Brady, Jeff Trachta, Philip Michael Thomas, Billie Myers, Linda De Mol and blues legend Solomon Burke.
Wendy studied music mostly by listening to and emulating her favorite singers, and has honed her craft during performance runs in Europe and the States. At home in Los Angeles she keeps sharp by gigging in every possible setting including performances with Art Deco And His Society Orchestra, one of the premier Society Orchestras in the world, festivals, gala celebrity charity events most recently to raise money for Orphanages in Mexico - hosted by Edwards James Olmos and Raquel Welch nightclubs, and big venues like the Ford Ampitheatre. In the process she has developed her vocal gymnastics, her ability to command a stage, an indescribable innate rapport with people, her contagious vivaciousness, and a style uniquely her own.
Dymanic - Wendy Alane Wrights first step toward total self-expression is her love affirming debut solo album As I Am (released on her own recording imprint, WendyWright Entertainment). The music was conceptualized, composed and recorded in Amsterdam, England and Los Angeles.
As I Am was released digitally through Music Forte and Last Fm, stimulating the appetites of listeners for Wendys soul-stirring artistry. She poured her heart into the title track As I Am a great pop/r&b tune written by Grammy nominee Allan Rich, best known for co-writing Whitney Houstons song Run To You, Natalie Coles I Live For Your Love and James Ingrams I Dont Have The Heart.
The album is filled with love songs including Maybe This Time. Which features exquisite sax work by Nederlands jazz masters Rolf Delfos and bassist Rene van Verseveld. That's my sexy song, Wendy laughs, the chord changes just gets me in the mood. Maybe This Time is one of the first songs I ever wrote and I had just fallen deeply in love so my lyrics expressed my personal hope that this time it would be different and that the love would last (Maybe This Time/Itll All Work Out/Maybe This Time/Itll Be For More Than Just One Night/Cuz Im Ready For Good Love Baby.) Wendy says, The idea that true love can exist is so inspiring - By the way I married him!
In addition to writing and singing, Wright also produced the project. All of her hard-earned time in studios, on the road working amongst great musicians and her gig as a music talent agent (representing Deniece Williams and The Four Tops) taught Wendy everything she needed to know in order to be an artist in her own right. There aren't many women producing, editing and recording, and I enjoy of moment of the process. In fact, there is no place I would rather be than in the studio making music.
Meant To Be Together, is a straight up jazz tune featuring extraordinary piano playing by Johan Rovenstruk, reminiscent of any song off of Anita Bakers Compositions album, one of Wendys greatest influences. After being born into the 70s rock and 80s pop generations and missing the 20s and 30s jazz years, Wendy says, Anita Bakers Composition gave me a taste of what real music and instrumentation is like. I immediately fell in love with jazz and soon afterwards discovered Miles Davis, John Coltrane and others. My favorite experience today of music is an instrumental jazz album or smooth jazz played at an open-air jazz festival where I can get lost in the music.
Lead Me Home is a song that Transcends singing. Wendy Alane Wrights voice is so clear and her vocal delivery is breathtaking and lifts you into another place, lending even deeper resonance to the soul searching of the lyric.
Just A Miracle is an opportunity to hear Wendy sing with just a Piano - played beautifully by Steven Cahil, who I had the pleasure of working with says Wendy. The track was also penned by Steven Cahill (Touched By An Angel) and Carol Hall (Best Little Whorehouse In Texas) with lyrics - The Moment That I Met You/Amazing How I Knew/That Youd Become A Part Of Me/And I A Part Of You/Love is Lifes Miracle/ And You Are Mine. The song is so touchingly delivered, listeners have been known to burst into tears.
Wendys album is a mixture of pop ballads and jazz with smooth, soulful vocals. Theres even a hip hop beat tossed in for good measure on the track I Love The Way You Love Me and some alternative sounds including a memorable guitar riff on Angel No Heaven Can Hold. I refuse to be limited. I want to express my full potential, whatever that is. It has nothing to do with anyone else I just want to use the gifts I have been given to the fullest.

Have you performed in front of an audience?
My greatest influences were my parents. My father taught me to love music and shared with me music from the greats--people like Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, and Gladys Knight. My mother also loved music and played it most of the day, specifically people like Neil Diamond and Fleetwood Mac. In fact, one of my greatest memories from childhood was laying around on the living room floor in the dark with my family listening to Neil Diamond.
Being brought up by a white mother and a black father, I was exposed to white and black/soul music; therefore my own music often has elements of both. My personal musical
influences, as I started to perfect my craft of singing, were Anita Baker, Michael McDonald, John Waite, Barry White, Mariah Carey, Jean Carne, Whitney Houston, Teena Marie, and more.
THE EARLY YEARS
-------------
I started listening to music when I was a child. Sitting on the floor with my record player in a box, spinning 45's. I fell in love with music, lyrics and expressing feelings through singing. I sang all night and all day for 10+ years. I taught myself how to sing. I listened to Anita Baker, Michael McDonald, Barry White, The Jackson Five, Rene and Angela, Jean Carne, and the great 70's soft rock tunes.
I knew when I grew up I wanted to be a singer and I am. But what a lot of people don't know is I had a horrible case of stage fright when I started which I had to work hard to overcome. I did over come it. It took years. That is why I am always so supportive of people following their dream and goals and walking through their fears, no matter what. There was a time I could not go on stage and sing in front of anybody, not even 1 person. Now I sing in front of thousands and I live for it.
I moved to LA when I was 23 and made my first record singing backup for a group signed to capital called Colourblind. I was in their video. Then I met a record producer who flew me to Europe where I made my 2nd record, singing with a group called Def La Desh. Our first single "Feel The Rhythm" was a top 20 hit. This group gave me a taste of what I longed for...success. I performed all over Holland, in France, in Miami, did music videos that aired on MTV, BET, VH1. I traveled in limos to gigs and the record company paid for it all. We visited radio stations and did drops.
I always say to people who dream to sing...follow your heart. You can make it happen. Be prepared and when opportunities come jump on them. Don't let anything or anyone stop you...especially yourself!
Between 2003-2006 I wrote a book, a screenplay and 2 children's books which I am working on getting published.
There have been some ups and downs. Deals that fell through, times I didn't want to hear my own voice, so tired of hearing it for awhile. But when you are an artist, the voice that calls you doesn't sleep long. I want to thank everyone who has supported me over the years. All the people who have loved my voice and demanded that I sing. And I want to thank all the artists who share their feelings, words, and music with the world. I love you artists the most.
