Wellsprings

Wellsprings is Jack Urban and Glauber Ribeiro, an accoustic piano and flute duo based in Wheaton, Illinois (Chicago area, USA). We have one album produced (called Wellsprings) and another one in the works. Our album is available at http://www.cdbaby.com/glauber . Our music is a blend of new and traditional Christian music played straight from the heart, in a very relaxed and jazzy style.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
It was 1993 when Jack and I started getting together every sunday evening to record these tracks. From the beginning, we decided that this would be a simple and honest production, with no additional help and no effects added. It took us the whole year and then some, recording three takes of each track directly into digital audio tape, one tape per track. At the end, we reviewed all the tapes and picked up the takes which we felt were the best. The result is an album that speaks directly to the listener, as if we were playing in your living room. Wellsprings was released in cassette format on 1995, then re-released as a CD in 1997. Many years have passed since, but this album is still a favourite of ours. We're very excited about making it available on the Web, hoping that it will help the wonderful power of its peaceful music to a larger audience.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We enjoy playing live; even our album was all recorded live. We often play for church functions, weddings, and as background music for events such as art gallery shows and Christmas parties.
Your musical influences
Paul Winter comes to mind, as well as Jan Garbarek's "Officium" album. Other unlikely influences are Mark Knopfler and B. B. King.
What equipment do you use?
Microphones. That's it. We don't need no steenking electronics.
