Vince Conaway
Vince Conaway is a hammered dulcimer player performing throughout North America and Europe. With a background in piano and mandolin he first began teaching himself to play the dulcimer in 2000, gradually incorporating it into his other performances until it became his primary instrument. A full-time working musician since 2002, he performs extensively in the US, Canada, and Italy as well as occasional performances elsewhere in Europe.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Performing is almost entirely special moments! My bread-and-butter performances are Renaissance Festivals, but in the past two years I've started performing more and more in Europe. Italy is my favorite and I spend about four months of the year playing on street corners there. I've met some fantastic people and seen some amazing places over the years!
What equipment do you use?
I perform on a Dusty Strings D35 16/15 hammered dulcimer. I love their instruments for the tone and volume; since I talk while I perform it's important that the dulcimer is loud enough to carry but not so much that it drowns out my voice. It's got a fantastic timbre, not too shrill on the high end or wimpy in the bass.
