Story behind the song
Mike Cemprola - solo alto saxophone
This short composition for solo alto saxophone was written as an assignment for comp class during our section on monody (or pieces that are made up of a single-line instrument -- such as flute, saxophone, cello, etc.). It took up the space of about a week to fully construct and complete, and since I thought of the piece as more of a *speck* of a composition than a full one ... well, I think you can figure for yourself where the title came from. However, it isn't likely with this composer that I start out feeling neutral about a piece and end up loving it at the end -- this piece is a strong exception. Once the recording session took place and I heard the very emotional result, I took a step back to realize that composing in a notation software with crappy MIDI sounds is just the first step. Real instruments don't sound that terrible, as you will tell with this lovely interpretation from sax genius Mike Cemprola.
