Story behind the song
If you could give someone the best gift for Christmas this would be it. There are many things that steal our attention away at Christmas, this song helps me to focus in on what the real meaning is and needs to be.
Lyrics
I Wish You Christ words & music by elwood The stores are dressed up in Christmas lights, the city streets are too. If you didn’t know how all of this began, the meaning could get lost on you. We’ve all got our list again this year, All the things we have to buy. But the greatest gift doesn’t need to be wrapped, I’ll tell you the reason why. CHORUS 1: I wish you Christ this Christmas, All of Him that you can stand. From the the baby in a manger scene, To the sacrificial lamb. I wish you the happiest holiday, That you could ever have, Yes I wish you Christ this Christmas, And it can’t get any better than that. The greatest gift to all of mankind, Arrived 2,000 years ago. But what good is the best gift of all, If they don’t even know. It’s great to have Santa for all the kids, And see their faces shine on Christmas morn. But we all need to hear about the man, Not just the baby that was born. CHORUS 2: Show them Christ this Christmas, All of Him that they can stand. From the the baby in a manger scene, To the sacrificial lamb. And this could be the happiest holiday, That they could ever have, If they find Christ this Christmas, It can’t get any better than that. Christmas is special, this is true, And it is better to give than recieve. He showed us this as none other could do, When He came, and when He chose to leave. CHORUS 2: I wish you Christ this Christmas, All of Him that you can stand. From the the baby in a manger scene, To the sacrificial lamb. And this could be the happiest holiday, That you could ever have, If you find Christ this Christmas, It can’t get any better than that No it can’t get any better than that ©1999 Elwood McElveen, Jr.
