Story behind the song
A continuing quest to understand modes with the help of David Wallimanns teaching - one of his backing tracks (Icarus Dream in C) had the right mood for the song about the Sparrowhawk - a military warlike sound. But not my normal style and I honestly don't know if my playing and arrangement have any merit - the words and backing track are very good though.
Lyrics
Brooding occupant of the claw clutched fence
Baleful, staring down the twitterers defence,
What patience you exhibit, no hungry snatch
At your prey who huddle together and watch.
What should I do, that sees you on the killing fiels?
Chase you away, or with patience to nature yield?
Some God created those vicious claws and piercing eyes,
Am I above His law to proclaim myself the sparrows' shield?
And suddenly you dive and take your easy prey
Amid teh screams of lesser creatures, gone, away -
Commotion stirred and just as sudden gone, as
The hopeless victim of your hard claw and natural law.
Now the birds have all dispersed still fearful
Of the shocking attack that left me so tearful,
Somehow bereft of life, heart-rent for one small uncounted life
And God's imjustice served
What should I do, that sees you on the killing fiels?
Chase you away, or with patience to nature yield?
Some God created those vicious claws and piercing eyes,
Am I above His law to proclaim myself the sparrows' shield?
