Poem from Poetry in Words in my book, Phenomenally Me.
Ophelia Brown is a poet who likes to marry music with words. She writes mostly free verse.
Lyrics
Why is it during the time
I am supposed to be sleeping,
My eyes pop wide open and
I reach for my pen? Words
Tumble from the lips of my mind
And ink shatters the fibers
Of paper, wetting the dead tree
And making it cry out because
My words tickle it as I write?
I am not a poet
I am an androgynous fountain
Of spoken word and truth.
The words of those before me
Regurgitated and recycled
To form new meanings
For me and my life.
The words have not changed
But through the heart and mind
Of he who speaks them,
They leave abodes of the past,
One by one,
And step into this millennium
Armed with the newest ideas of time.
Poetry
Words tumbling from the lips of minds
Are mere reflections of man
And how he values his time.
