Soloist. Songwriter/singer. ASCAP member. A NICE WITNESS FOR CHRIST There is an extensive interview of me done by Scott Crawford, at . Do not let the site name alarm you. It is an "adult-themed music and entertainment" site. It is not a porn site, and you will not get tagged for spam if you go there. Scott is a journalist of integrity, who asked pertinent and penetrating questions, then printed my answers verbatim. Both God and His son received much attention in the interview. REVIEWS: "Fancy keyboard playing is the backdrop for this positive and upbeat collection. Hackley's vocals are reminiscent of Burl Ives." Review by Brent Castillo, The Wichita Eagle, March 5, 2005. "world's wimpiest Christian rocker". Brother Russell Podcast; : INFLUENCES (a very lengthy list, ending with...) "and of course, Richard Hackley." "Yet the songs on the Worst of the Worst can be compelling in their awfulness. Songs like Richard Hackley's rabble-rousing, hackles-raising spiritual God's Backhand ("We're not talking about tennis or Ping-Pong!") "; "Richard Hackley... HUGE musical influence. And a real bad mofo live.";

Story behind the song
2 Chronicles 14-16 deal with the 40-year reign of King Asa. Asa started off hearkening to the Lord, but later drifted away. This song covers one of the likely reasons for his downfall. To my knowledge, I have never put this song (written in 2000) on the internet, because those weak in faith can easily misunderstand, or mis-apply the lesson. However, I have been getting the nudge lately to make the song available, so here it is. Two things to keep in mind: 1- there are other reasons God might be silent 2- since Christ came, God is now a Father. We should not go "a dozen years or so" before hearing from Him.
Lyrics
(v.1) When Asa became king of Judah he put an end to their spiritual drought. He made the people follow God again and he drove idolatry out. Then after a dozen years or so a prophet brought a message from God Who said, “Your work will be rewarded, Asa. So, keep up the good job.” It really fired Asa up for a while and he sought God with even more will. But time wore on, w/no more messages and his resolve started going downhill. After 20 years of silence from God Asa now ran things on his own God was not the center of his final years on the throne. (c) The silence of God speaks loudly but is misunderstood by so many. We start looking for hidden messages when really there just isn’t any. We think God wants us in a new direction, or to do some new thing When the silence of God usually just means that ... nothing has changed. (v.2) What King Asa should have done was not let that message expire Referring to it as often as needed to keep himself on fire. It’s the same battle that has always been and we still have today. God plants His word in our hearts, and the thief tries to steal it away. No matter how many years have passed since God gave you your ministry Until He instructs you otherwise, keep at it faithfully. And if God should alter your course then enjoy the change in guidance. But if God wants you just to continue on ...then what you’ll hear is silence. (c)
