Story behind the song
I wanted to write a song that could be used as a national anthem for Scotland
Lyrics
Our Caledonia He was proud and gallant he was our new king He gave us hope for our nation once again But he was beaten he had lost the game Our Caledonia would remain in pain It was one evening on a cold dark night He fought the battle but he lost the fight O'er hills and glens he did hide away Our Caledonia was lost today Now there came a soldier a fine young man He became our hero for he had a plan To help his people take their home again Our Caledonia our hills and glens And now our hopes are raised anew again We are so close now to release our pain The time is coming and our hopes are raised Our Caledonia will once more be saved And we are free now to live once again With our heads held high now we're a nation again We can feel the freedom blowing through the air Our Caledonia so proud and fair
