Here's the explanation I gave Shaylin....hope it works for you folks! (Shaylin will be a year old in February.)

Dear Shaylin,
In September 2003, after visiting with you and your mom, I was sitting in
Akron airport waiting for my flight home to New Hampshire. While I was
there, I wrote this song for you.
I had lots of time to sit and think about my visit. While I liked your mom,
it was clear that we did not have a future except as friends. I was sad
about that, but what really broke my heart is that I wouldn't be with you
as you grew up.
I've never written a song before, but the words just kept coming. Some of
the words are from my imagination, but the words, "from the day that I met
you, you captured my heart" could not be more true. The brief time I spent
with you made a huge impact in my life. My life truly IS better since
you've been a part.
I hope that by the time you are able to understand the words to this song
you will have your very own daddy that loves and cares for you and your mom
above all else.
Thank you for opening doors to feelings that I never knew I had within
myself.
