This is a 6 track LP from this Portland, Oregon project that brings together multiple elements with significant results. It's raw but powerfully produced, Blackened Doom, that incorporates melodic, sludgy, and fast Black Metal ingredients. The vocals trade between a death growl and a frost bitten shriek, and both work really well within the contexts they are used. The songs have a lot of feeling to them, and develop as they go along rather than driving the riffs into the ground. They juxtapose the different tangents of Doom, melody, plod and Black Metal well, and build the tracks emotionally, rather than just stringing it all together to show off their chops. It's a bleak overall feel but not one that is completely desolate, there are some moments of beauty and exaltation woven into the melodic bits that give the music a bit more heart than something that dwells only on abysmal "evilness." "Where Dead Hang From Trees" has grown on me more and more with repeated listens as well, and I liked it just fine the first time I played it. This is a really strongly conceived piece of work and I look forward to seeing them continue on.
