As a kid in Eastern North Carolina all the old men would gather in the fall to run their Coon Dogs, drink some whiskey and make a bet or two. This is a tune about running coon dogs in the old days.

Story behind the song
As a kid growing up in Eastern North Carolina I got to tag along on a few coon hunts. Though I never figured why they were called hunts. The coon was rarely killed as the mere "treeing" of the critter ended the hunt and crowned the winning hound that "tree'd" the coon first. I remember hearing the hounds running and how the sound would change once the hound had tree'd the coon. They called this sound an "Old Man's Moonlight Serenade"
