They Call Me Person Man (Straight Up)
Written by Austin Scholl; musically inspired by Beck's "Blackhole" and "Broken Drum"; lyrically inspired by Beck, They Might Be Giants' "Particle Man" and TMBG's tendency to be funny, yet sad. This version has the effects deactivated.
Austin Scholl's solo songs and experiments. No limits except for my own equipment and talent.
Story behind the song
With my guitar still in drop-D after coming up with "Knock/Gabriel/Knock", I did some part D chords and was randomly inspired by a couple of Beck's softer, more psychedelic songs. The first lyric that came out of nowhere was "Lit a cigarette", but I don't smoke, so I thought "Put it out again". Everything depressing and hilarious that followed, "Burned down the house", etc, was inspired by TMBG and Beck's humorous style.
"Sun shines bright, Lose my sight" made me laugh when I thought of it.
Lyrics
Lit a cigarette
Put it out again
Burned down the house
Watch TV
With No AC
Mowed the yard
Worked hard to make it clean and
It's a marshland
They call me Person Man
Sun shines bright
Lose my sight
Contacts are gone
Something's wrong
I think I'm at the gang place
Where my bones break
They call me Person Man
Can't find the potato pealer
A walking stick is not a feeler
To Person Man
Burning love
Sunburned dove
I sympathize
It's taken my eyes
Taken my eyes
Taken my eyes
Taken my eyes...
