"The Proof" by The Actual
the actual postpunk emo p
Los Angeles power-pop band with more power and more pop than most other bands who fall under that banner.
Los Angeles power-trio The Actual play a very uncommon brand of reckless, pessimistic pop. Eschewing the whininess found in most of today's melodic rock bands in favor of wonder, insight and introspection, they combine it all into wonderfully hooky and surprisingly short songs delivered with gusto that would make any great post-punk act proud. On their forthcoming thirteen-song long-player Songs on Radio Idaho (out September 2nd on Eyeball Records) Max Bernstein's guitars are alternately jangly and strangling, weaving in between Jeremy Bonsall's linear walking-style basslines and Jeff Keenan's quick-wristed staccato drumming, often giving way for vocal hooks usually reserved for less ferocious bands. Since forming in late 2001, The Actual have been touring relentlessly without regard to starvation or attendance, opening for luminaries such as Superdrag, Taking Back Sunday and The Posies, impressing everyone in their path who likes dimension and fury with their pop.

Lyrics
Hey. Do you know the way down to the avenue? The one that they say is worth a going-to - if you know the way I’d like to follow you. And they say that it’s easy to get over to, but I’ve got a tendency to misconstrue the directions that they gave me in the overview. ‘Cause I’m the first to show up, the last one to go, the first one to learn and the last one to know - and if you’re missing a screw you can pull out the fuse or explode. And everybody says that someday, you will finally stop and pick me out of a crowd when I’m down and out on my own. Hey. Can we get it straight ‘cause this is terrible, and my absence of faith is barely bearable, and you’re the only thing I think is possible? And I... I always tried to draw a parallel and still cross your path down at the carousel, ‘cause it all goes around among your clientele. And I can tell that you’ll give me none and everyone two, ‘cause I asked for one and they asked for a few. So, I will look for another until I discover the proof. And everybody says that someday, you will finally stop and pick me out of a crowd when I’m down and out on my own. And everybody says that one day, you will finally stop and show me but I’ve got my doubts; I’ve waited this out all alone. Hey. Do you know the way down to the avenue? The one that everyone is going to; I might like to get just what you’re going through. I’m trying to iron the kinks in your symmetry. We could all use a drink and some good company. As long as you find it, the place that you get it is all right with me. And everybody says that someday, you will finally stop and pick me out of a crowd when I’m down and out on my own. And everybody says that one day, you will finally stop and show me but I’ve got my doubts; I’ve waited this out all alone. Because there’s too many gods and too many girls that everyone’s got in their own little worlds that have skipped over mine, left me behind on my own.
