Story behind the song
It was strange. I picked up the guitar and started stumming something...it sounded alright. And then I started singing. That was cool too. So I got out my trusty "notebook" and started to write down the words as they came out. Most of the lyrics are basically unchanged. I rearranged the order somewhat but its mostly still intact. Then once I had it, I did one take with the mic and listend to it. Changed a few things and then took the second take. That is the one that I kept. I think if I mess around with it anymore, it won't be as special. But yeah that was basically how it came about. Now...what river? The song is called "Along the River" and it is sadly once again one of those sad sorta songs. But mixed in with sadness and confusion is the idea of hope. Basically, its all about light as a metaphor for difficulty. It blinds you sometimes. You can't "see" what you're doing sometimes. Like people that you like, you just don't to do about it. I was quiet that whole day before writing the song. Ask my friends...I wasn't in the mood for tag and apparntly I am still "it." But I was quiet casue I felt left out. I was confused. I wasn't really sure what I wanted. And thats where the words came from. The idea is that I'm somehow hoping that the person will help me out and realize what I need for me. I know it is so difficult to explain how you feel to someone so I guess I just wrote the song about that idea. And the river...obviously a metaphor for life. See you can;t doubt the things that you have behind you. You know where you have come from. There's no need for reassurance of the facts. So I guess thats what the whole thing means. Hope you like the song. Talk with you later.
Lyrics
Along the River One day begins again In the scarlet sky I try to make sense of Sunbeams in my eyes The face I’ve come to smile upon Has been dear in my heart But I’m waiting for eternity To build courage enough to start Blinding me forward Holding me back Drift along the river And never once look back Drift along the river And never once look back The evening shines discreetly It makes the surface blind A rhyme that tumbles earthward But nowhere can I find A perfect new arrangement In the tremors of my mind Come feed these new sensations Embrace a moment of our time Blinding me forward Holding me back Drift along the river And never once look back Drift along the river And never once look back
