From the depths of America’s finest city, two artists emerge with determination, skill, and pure talent to bring a new innovative sound to the face of Hip Hop. The two combine to form Akaliko, a unique band of microphone bandits and beat composers. Akaliko has been developing their skill for the last few years in the San Diego area. Ja, am I in? (Jamin Barnes) hails from Sacramento where he’s been honing his lyrical creativity for the last decade. Humble Idea (James Roit) has been developing his musical gift since youth in the suburbs of Chicago. Their musical talent continues to grow and knows no boundaries. The group has independently released a full length LP “Unconditioned to Time and Season”, which was well received by the underground communities of both southern and northern California. They are currently working on a new project “Da Tighty Whiteys”, and are more than nine songs deep. Akaliko continues to do shows not just locally, but in different states and countries. The group had the unique opportunity to do the first live Hip Hop performance in Darwin, Australia. For more information on the group go to www.akalikomusic.com. Akaliko is determined to challenge the status quo. They would rather be leaders than followers. The following contains a small sample of their talent. I guarantee you will hear more from them in years to come.

Lyrics
Routine: Ja, am I in?: On gaurd against the worldly piranhas Takin' refuge in Buddha, Dharma and Sanga Absorbed in the Jhanna See the circular effects of Karma Blessed to be with a woman her name is Pasara Searchin' on my path for Nibanna Expandin' past the genres is the Bodhisattva at Wat Metta And I'm blessed to even know the man I call him Than Paw He's the father to the land He's lendin' me a helpin' hand Now I'm gettin' started He told me that the essence of life It lies within the heart That was once parted now it's mendin' Feel the message that he's sendin' As I'm mediatatin' by the tress All the mental disease flows out with the ease of my breath Knowin' the sensation in stress And I rest in my stillness It's the realest of the real Way beyond what my senses feel I don't know who deals these cards but I guess I gots to play 'em Walkin' in my destination End in mental fabrication Knowin' limitation of self identity Don't be attached to the body See it as an entity Forget about perception that are sensory Givin' rise to misconception and uncertainty Undoubtedbly we hesitated, elevated, liberated From the mental state I was once in chorus: Life's a routine you see All I do is work, eat, shit, sleep & dream Life's a routine you see Sick of seein' things comin' done at the seams Life's a routine you see Not everything that glistens always has a gleam Life's a routine you see Everything in life ain't always what it seems Humble Idea: Head to the North Pole Devote my life In an igloo I'll write With mittens on engulfed by frost Really haven't much loss Afraid of reality, salary, watchin' calories, and havin' to be conscious of it all I stall in the meantime Rhyme noteworthy Surely I mean servin' emcees like hip hop's suppose to be by definition I guess my music's way off course Or a little novelty Comically mistaken in the mainstream Who deems who dreams Aim my beams high behind revenue And my crew of two Rebuke myself if I don't do What I'm suppose Constraint temptation Treat others with respect and consideration Remember that all this music is just my avocation Yet transcend above the blend that's slowly descendin' to a fad I'm gald I hopped off that bandwagon Like saggin' I'm gettin' old Will I fold soon? Jamin the lyrical Panghainoon By my side Pressin' tunes for only two Not an informant for men For then I'd be a hypocritical bastard dormant Frightened by critics at my doorstep That's an extravagant price to pay Abliterate "livin' for the day" way of thinkin' True I might die today I can't disobey yet I can't fray away Should I become iridescent? Should I reach in deep and pull out my whole infrastructure To reenforce the concept of Jim? Flimsy as it is It's one of a kind I'm just fine sittin' home on a Saturday night Pettin' my cats Relax Watch Friends Eat Make a beat Go to sleep Dream (chorus)
