From the depths of America’s finest city, two artists emerge with determination, skill, and pure talent to bring a new innovative sound to the face of Hip Hop. The two combine to form Akaliko, a unique band of microphone bandits and beat composers. Akaliko has been developing their skill for the last few years in the San Diego area. Ja, am I in? (Jamin Barnes) hails from Sacramento where he’s been honing his lyrical creativity for the last decade. Humble Idea (James Roit) has been developing his musical gift since youth in the suburbs of Chicago. Their musical talent continues to grow and knows no boundaries. The group has independently released a full length LP “Unconditioned to Time and Season”, which was well received by the underground communities of both southern and northern California. They are currently working on a new project “Da Tighty Whiteys”, and are more than nine songs deep. Akaliko continues to do shows not just locally, but in different states and countries. The group had the unique opportunity to do the first live Hip Hop performance in Darwin, Australia. For more information on the group go to www.akalikomusic.com. Akaliko is determined to challenge the status quo. They would rather be leaders than followers. The following contains a small sample of their talent. I guarantee you will hear more from them in years to come.

Lyrics
The Gas is Low chorus: The gas is low I gots no cash flow The gas is low Oh no Ja, am I in?: I'm reachin' in my pocket all I got is some lint And wonderin' how the hell I'm ever gonna pay my rent Before I get my check Most of it goes to the government I pay hella in social security and probably never see a cent I really couldn't tell you where the other half was spent But I'm about two steps away from livin' in a tent There's hella tweekers around here and they always gettin' bent They stealin' so much shit I don't know where my plant went I'm about to vent and release some frustration Bein' broke builds character but I really don't have the patience Gas is on low I can't afford to fill at the station Fools they try to break in So down the street I'm chasin' I got four cans of soup A bag of rice It's time to ration I'm not gettin' paid for a while I hope this shit be lastin' I ain't jokin' man This shit is gettin' old I couldn't afford the heat and so I'm shiverin' from the cold (chorus) Humble Idea: I'm driving on "E" I need to fill up but the nearest station is nowhere to be found In this broke town I find myself right now runnin' around in circles Searchin' frantically I wouldn't want to be stranded on the side of the road All alone with no help My car's putt putt puttin' along It won't be la la long 'til the gas is all ga ga gone now I have to let off this lead foot Then maybe that will increase my mileage But just a little bit and that's it I wouldn't expect anything more I can't even afford to drive to the store Let alone stock up on groceries I'm eatin' ramen noodles for breakfast, lunch & dinner If I could sell out for dollar maybe then I could be a winner I'm watchin' the gap between the needle and "E" gettin' thinner & thinner I figure gettin' to "F" isn't gonna be that easy as a beginner But I'm gonna strive anyway keep drivin' this way Someday I'll have a full tank in my ride and I'll drive away -December 12, 2002 (chorus) Ja, am I in? I'm strikin' down the block with some holes in my socks The only thing I got is some headphones that knock I had a twenty spot but I bought a new CD Maybe I should of went to the store and got some groceries Humble Idea: I need to do my laundry today I'm scrougin' around the apartment for some change It's only seventy five cents but I can't pay it So I holler at Jay to see if I could drive his way To use his washer and dryer Get rid of my funk today Ja, am I in?: Damn I gotta say that bein' broke is here to stay I'm in a state of emergency I need some currency urgently Cause SDG&E is cuttin' off electricity And sendin' bill collectors runnin' after me Humble Idea: Fuck Cox Cable SDG&E Fuck Pacific Bell Get off my N-U-T's bitch Ja, am I in?: Fuck a car payment Fuck payin' rent Fuck Visa for the bill that they sent (chorus)
