Story behind the song
About 5 random things I observed in a day that have nothing to do with each other.
Lyrics
I saw the most beautiful thing today. An old man with an umbrella at the bottom of the subway stairs Stopped an old lady from going down. She scuffled around and tried to get by but he wouldn't let her. Finally she looked up and recognized his face. The two smiled and embraced. I hugged my family on this side of the ocean today. It was beautiful. Then someone came in. Her friends crashed their car. They were lovers now permanently divorced because he died. I felt sad of a love so ending. I go to school next to a hospital. I see some of the saddest things. The other day a man jumped of a building. He was one block short of the emergency room doors. We watched his blood run down the side of the road And all I could do was study Plato. Then, someone tried to stop the train with their body. He still had a pulse, that's all I know. My friend is in love with a girl stuck in a relationship. They're in love with each other but everyone is friends. The situation is complicated, just like these words.
