A rock song by my band 'Orange the Band' that we recorded about 1981.
Story behind the song
I wrote the lyrics for this during my first year at Portland State University, Portland, Oregon, probably in early 1981. Guess I was getting my liberal side going.
My band Orange played a number of originals, and my brother Bob and our singer Tim wrote the music for this song. We recorded it and had it on our demo tape.
Tim Landauer - lead vocals
Randy Morter - guitar
Bob Morter - bass guitar and vocals
Dan Hutchens - drums and vocals
Billy Nichols - keyboards and vocals

==================================
Hey you working man
Work your life as fast as you can
Get up early get to your job
Don't be late to punch that clock
(Chorus)
What do you say is your real life?
Monday morning or the weekend nights?
Does the paycheck make you what you are?
What is the real price for your new car?
So you got a wife and kid
Domesticated, you got it made
But, don't you feel something, somehow?
Life ain't measured by bank accounts
(Repeat Chorus)
Hey you working man
Fourteen forty minutes in a day
Don't leave time to love or play
All for money you work your life away
Oh no I ain't crazy
Oh no I ain't lazy
Oh no - the future's hazy!
Oh no - come and pay me!
