Hi folks. I have added a lot of videos recently. Please take a look!
Hi folks, This site acts as a personal archive of my work. So you'll find my best recordings here as well as some pretty crappy ones. The earliest recordings here were made on simple cassette decks, others were made on mobile phones, some are live recordings made at various gigs over the years, a handful were made in small recording studios, but most of the more recent ones were made at home on a Zoom portable studio, which itself is now rather ancient! If you like a song and want to download it, click on 'Full song info' for that song and you will see the download link. You can also read the lyrics and any background information on the songs that I may have added. All my music is available for free - enjoy :) cheers, Charles

Story behind the song
In 1971 I was living in this lovely run-down old mansion called Nanteos near Aberystwyth in Wales, where I was going to university. 'Nanteos means 'valley of the nightingale' in Welsh. It was originally home to the Powell family and is reputedly haunted by various of their ancestors. When I lived there it was owned by Jeff Bliss and his family - people of gypsy descent - and I rented a room on the top floor along with a number of other students and hippies. The song reflects some of the experiences and lessons learned from multiple trips with LSD and mescalin. It is definitely a song from the 'psychedelic' era..!! We had a great time there. I had such a good time that I dropped out of university that year :) For more about the house check out this site: http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/mid/sites/weird/pages/nanteos.shtml
Lyrics
Ahhh! Ahhh! In the hilly hills of Wales In the valley of the nightingales I used to dwell I remember so well At the university They had nothing more to offer me So I spent my time Looking deep within my mind Dressing up in the darkness to see the sunrise Watch the waking birds swimming in my eyes High in the morning skies Ahhh! Ahhh! Under banks of ancient trees Lies a mansion clothed in ivy leaves Such a dream of mine Drifting down the stream of time I would walk across the fields With a friend who knows just how it feels When all is one And there's nothing to be done Nightingale valley is a rainbow Multicoloured miracle of dayglow My hands so far away And my eyes bliss brimming Bliss brimming Bliss bringing Bliss bringing Ocean of life Ocean of light Ocean of life Ocean of light!! Ocean of light!! Ahhh Ahhh! Far away from death and birth In the life of all the universe Where I never change I find myself again I am I am!
