A song attributed to Jimmy Cox - apparently written in the 1920s and since recorded by just about everybody :) This is my version...

Hi folks. I have added a lot of videos recently. Please take a look!
Hi folks, This site acts as a personal archive of my work. So you'll find my best recordings here as well as some pretty crappy ones. The earliest recordings here were made on simple cassette decks, others were made on mobile phones, some are live recordings made at various gigs over the years, a handful were made in small recording studios, but most of the more recent ones were made at home on a Zoom portable studio, which itself is now rather ancient! If you like a song and want to download it, click on 'Full song info' for that song and you will see the download link. You can also read the lyrics and any background information on the songs that I may have added. All my music is available for free - enjoy :) cheers, Charles

Story behind the song
The origin of the song is really a bit of a mystery - but it's a great song!!
Lyrics
Once I led the life of a millionaire Spent all my money - I didn't care Taking my friends out for a mighty good time Buying high-priced liquor - champagne and wine But then I began to fall so low Didn't have a home - no place to go In my pockets not one penny As for friends - well - I hadn't any Now if I ever get my hands on a dollar again Gonna hold on to it till the eagle grins Cause it's mighty strange - there ain't no doubt How nobody knows you when you're down and out Oh nobody knows you when you're down and out It's so strange - there ain't no doubt Nobody knows you when you're down and out But when you get back on your feet again Why - everybody wants to be your long lost friend It's so strange - there ain't no doubt How nobody knows you when you're down and out Oh nobody knows you when you're down and out Mighty strange - there ain't no doubt Nobody knows you when you're down and out Oh nobody knows you when you're down and out Oh it's so strange - there ain't no doubt Nobody knows you when you're down and out
