Story behind the song
Apparently, while Andy was living downtown in Chicago, he was enjoying the night life too much. The music probably doesn't fit the dark subject matter. However, I'm not really a drinker. Actually, I've never been drunk. It doesn't appeal to me. Judging from Andy's lyrics, I don't think I'm missing much.
Lyrics
It's just a simple indulgence
One more pass by the scene
We were together
I was alive
Life glowed in light of a moonbeam
Rattle my head
Wipe off my eyes
Curse my debilitated heart
Drag myself home
That was the last
Gonna make a change
The self-pity stops right now
One for the day
One to celebrate
One for the pain
One to inebriate
Rinse and repeat
Wake up on a city street
A stone's throw from the trash
My mouth is dry
My head is pounding
Looks like I pissed away my cash
Pick myself up
Dust myself off
Make the obligatory vow
Drag myself home
That was the last
Gonna make that change
Starting here and now
One for a toast
One to celebrate
One for the road
One to inebriate
Rinse and repeat
