Story behind the song
I wrote this song to describe the story of the "black (evil) knight" in so many faerie tales. I always imagined some tragedy in his past (in this song, he rescues the princess but she ends up with Prince Charming) jaded him to the whole "faerie tale" ideal. That disillusionment and fall from grace is the song's theme.
Lyrics
“Knightfall” Music: Capers Simmons Lyrics: Douglas Simmons VERSE I Don’t tell me that you’ve been waiting for me Ask me to be what I cannot be This will all end in catastrophe I am just passing by CHORUS I Stay in your tower ‘til it falls from the sky I’ll catch you and kiss you and that should suffice I’ll slay your dragons and take you away from here I am the black knight, there’s no need to fear VERSE III I took a chance and went out on a limb I saved your life and you left me for him Stolen by charming and cunning and guile I am just passing by CHORUS II Stay in your tower ‘til you rot and die I’m the knight, not your prince, and that much should suffice I won’t slay no dragons, so just get the hell out of here I am the black knight – it’s me you should fear BRIDGE I am no hero; no savior am I I won’t kill the villains, I can’t watch you cry Don’t spend no sorrow on my soul, my dear I’m saying that as if you care VERSE III It was my choice to be wand’ring like this I never liked, or had a chance, in a relationship Don’t shed no tears, no don’t pity me I am just passing by ~ CHORUS I ~ CHORUS II ~
