Story behind the song
The initial inspiration came from THE MESSAGE (Eugene Peterson's translation of the Bible), Psalm 107. This psalm speaks of the LORD delivering His people over and over. Four times in the psalm, this deliverance is described as coming "in the nick of time". This 5-word phrase kept me from collapsing mentally in fear during months of uncertainty. My thanks to Mr. Peterson. I hope this story of how he helped me be strong reaches him someday.

v1 In Revelation Eleven a city began to fall Moments before, God removed two prophets safely away from it all. c1 In the nick of time In the nick of time v2 A prostate filled with sickness that leaves so many men dead. It was high grade. It was extensive. That's what the biopsy said. I wanted quick surgery But the medical world moved carefully. To check for spreading that would nullify any benefit to surgery. Weeks and months of tests and delay would have torn me apart If God had not first taken this phrase and planted it firmly within my heart. c2 In the nick of time In the nick of time v3 But surgery didn't quite get it all maybe radiation could Thirty-seven treatments over fifty days then finally... labwork that was good. So eleven months after detection my PSA was where it should be. Now it's 5 more years of monitoring ... five years of wait and see. The phrase that got me thru the past year will get me thru this wait-and-see. The timing of God rescued two prophets and it's His timing that rescued me. c3 In the nick of time In the nick of time
