Story behind the song
I remember walking along the shore in California when I was a young girl and coming across a sand dollar among other beautiful shells. I took the shells and spread them out onto my towel where I picked them up one by one, exploring their beautiful shapes and colors. I remember picking up the sand dollar and staring at it in awe! Although it wasn't as colorful as the others it had it's own special beauty that was hard to describe, but it was my favorite because of all the intricate details that looked as if they had been etched by an artist.. That was before I realized this unique gift from the deep was hiding yet another beautiful secret inside... a star, that when broken apart becomes five separate small doves. This shell is like a puzzle I thought. I've always been fascinated by this sea Urchin, long before I ever heard the Legend of the Sand Dollar poem. Though the writer of this poem is unknown, I want to thank them for it. If anyone knows who this person is please tell me so I can include their name as a co-writer.

"Signs of the Times" By: Olivia Francis and ? (c) 2008-BMI-ARR Signs....Signs.... These lovely seashells have graced the sands of ocean shores But their rare beauty, a joy to behold is hard to find anymore It seems they have vanished somewhere in the deep, out of our sight One more example of a few signs of the times They call it a legend, but from my heart, I must implore Sand Dollars portraying the life of our Lord, deserve so much more As a child, I marveled at each tiny detail I'd find Etched upon this small canvas of Divine signs of the times CHORUS: The life of Jesus can be found within these tiny shells It's a lovely story of sweet Glory to Behold An Easter Lily with center star, that led shepherds from afar Four small nail holes and a fifth, as the Roman spear in it A Poinsettia for His Birthday, our Happy Christmastide Are among some of the precious signs of the times If you break the shell open, one by one you will release Five tiny white doves, here to spread good will and peace A beautiful symbol of Infinite Love , sent from above In remembrance of God's only Son, who gave His life to save us This wondrous story of Jesus from this lovely shell Is one of great Glory to Behold, for us to tell There's an Easter Lily with center star, that led shepherds afar Four small holes and a fifth, as the Roman spear in it And a Poinsettia for His Birthday, when we celebrate His life Are a few signs we've been shown of the times These Divine reminders are just a few signs of the times I can't help but wonder how many more small miracles and messages from God are out there somewhere we've yet to discover Wonderful signs of the times Signs....signs.....signs
