Singer/Songwriter based in Oxford UK. Voice & acoustic guitar. Some people say I sound like Leonard Cohen.
Story behind the song
I was staying with friends and they went away & I sat down to write a song and amazingly this one arrived. I liked the concept of one's mind portrayed as a city. I'd also been listening to Tindersticks and tried singing as far away from the appropriate note as possible.
Lyrics
Whe you want to you reach inside me every time
And I melt, all my tensions unwind
And I remember when you touched me there before
And you could save me, or let me fall, the choice was yours
Don't know if it's just love or your spell
Or familiarity, we know ourselves so well
or if it's just that it's you, you know your way around
The dead entries and dark alleys of my town.
For the women I built houses, glittering squares
The back streets sprang up while I was unawares
and a map would have no point, it changes every day
and the others I let enter soon lost their way
Don't know...
The rooms are all different, the lovers have wishes
The bars never close, the dreamers have space
The dancers are warm, you have your young body
And I have grace
But when things get so bad I'm lost in a dive
Blocking my pain, blocking my shame, till you arrive
Cos when you want to, you can find me, you alone
help me take the line of least resistance home
Don't know...
The secrets and the defects of my town
The hidden and forbidden of my town
The erotic and the erratic of my town
The logic and the magic of my town
The dead entries and dark alleys of my town...
