Story behind the song
thoughts I had while driving down the highway seeing all the old gas stations and restaurants that are closed. wondering what happened to the family's that once owned them.
Lyrics
Doesn't Anybody Stay V1 Driving down this highway my back to the setting sun Souvenirs and gifts just take exit 31 An empty service station along the frontage road the last time it was open it must have been 1971 Chorus Doesn't Anybody remember Sisters and Brothers Doesn't anybody want to play with children on the floor Doesn't anybody stay Together anymore V2 The light is slowly fading as the mountains turn to go dark clouds in the distance beginning to let go we're always halfway between somewhere and the middle looking for a place to rest stoke the fire and turn the coals Chorus repeats

I noticed very quicky that you have sucessfully developed a signature kind of sound. It's a sound that is fresh - not the same old same old but a fresh new kind of sound that says listen this is going to be different. IN this song you demonstrate that it works well. The song is catchy but even more so with your wonderfully unique style. Love this song and the whole arrangement. Great job.

Lovely lyric, Dave....what happened to families eh? I'm still with my hub after almost 37 years marriage and a 3 years courtship so I guess I agree with you 100%

Pretty cool work, David! :) I detected some Crosby, Stills and Nash, with the overtones of the group America in this one. :) VERY NICE JOB, my friend..you just keep getting better and better. :)

Dave, like Tony said, this is a gem. The lyrics are all yours with the melancholy themes and abstract images. Your chorus has a memorable melody and hooks the listener right away. Your trademeark guitar tapestry on the solo reels the mind in on another plane altogether. Wow, you have really developed a cool, original sound. Your fan, Johnny

You are really on a roll. This is a real gem. Lyrics really hit you and I think the answer is no! One of the big problems in our society. Just a beautiful production. Accoustic sounds heavenly and harmonies are very good as well. But for me the lyrics are very powerful. Great job. I am jealous I cannot seem to get anything recorded as of late. No motivation to get out of bed and carry on the charade what can I say? LOL!

Hi Dave, Great vocals/harmonies on this..and your guitar work is excellent! Love the tambourine also! The song has a your distinctive sound to it, but does remind me of CSN&Y. I love the pause near the end, the guitar solo there and then how you pick it up with the chorus...it adds a lot to the song! Very nice work my friend! :D
