There I was staring at a tree
Marveling at its green leaves.
There I was staring at the sky,
The deep blue… a pleasure to see.
There I was sitting in a chair,
Listening to my breath… focusing my mind.
There I was holding a rock,
Feeling its weight in my hand.
There I was reading a book,
My mind absorbing new concepts.
There I was at a theater
Enjoying a children’s play.
There I was driving my car,
No place to go, except very far.
There I was laying in bed,
No place I’d rather be instead.
There I was hiking down a trail
Taking in all the sights, sounds, and smells.
Here I am writing down words
Soon to be sung, though not very well.
Here I am sprawled upon the floor,
Pen in my hand, pain in my back.
Here I am scratching my chin
Seeking to stroke my muse.
Here I am without a plan
Trying to bask in the moment.
There I was… Here I am,
The only place to be is right now.
