Story behind the song
Song for a young girl's mother who was on my bus ministry some time back. Girl had a terminal illness and on visiting each Saturday we tried to be of some spiritual help in the situation. When the girl went to be with the Lord I wrote this.
Don't tell Dylan I stole his chord progression from his song Dignity!
Lyrics
To A Distant Love
Looking back over many years
Through the glass of my bottled tears
Wonder why all these hopes and fears
For a distant love
Far away in the Beulah land
Take delight in every grain of sand
For there it is I'll be hand in hand
With a distant love
And though the morrow may be mighty drear
In the sorrow of this present year
I'll keep time passing as I'm drawing near
To A distant love
Reminded with complete recall
The echo's ring of the trumpets call
Broke my heart and all the pieces fall
For a distant love
Think I can gather from this longing ache
The thought that holds me as I meditate
That in His likeness we will both awake
To a distant love
And though the waiting may produce a tear
That fills an ocean of forgotten years
It falls to silence as it draws me near
To a distant love
I have to wonder if the time will fly
Can feel a smile in your twinkling eye
Makes me flutter as I breath a sigh
For a distant love
I may continue from day to day
Wipe the tear drop of my love away
And I'm moving closer as I fly away
To a distant love
To a distant love
