Story behind the song
This was firstly written as a hymn when I was a teenager and latterly arranged as an instrumental piece for synthetic voices, violin, viola, cello, harp, guitar, 2 flutes, 2 clarinets, 2 bass clarinets, vibraphone, bass and tubular bells using cakewalk overture's software
Lyrics
Out of the stillness of the night A star of hope shines through. Reach for the star and claim its light To make the world anew. (Out of the night there’s a star shining through Reach for its light and a world become new) Peace and Goodwill. Peace and Goodwill. Peace and Goodwill to all. Peace and Goodwill. Peace and Goodwill. Peace and Goodwill to all . Christmas the time for giving gifts, For reaching out to share. Breaking down walls and healing rifts And showing that we care. (Christmas for gifts when we reach out to share, Healing the rifts and to show that we care). Peace and Goodwill etc. Surely our needs can all be met From earth’s abundant store. Swords into plough shares, cancelled debt And peace for evermore. (Surely our needs can be met from earth’s store Temper our deeds towards peace evermore). Peace and Goodwill etc. Ring out the bells on Christmas day; Glad tidings shining through. Hold to the Truth, the Light, the Way And make it all come true. (Christmas bells ring and glad tidings shine through. In Christ the King we can make it come true). Peace and Goodwill etc.
