A gal from work recently decided to join the Peace Corp for a 2-year stint in Paraguay. I wrote this one as a bit of a going-away present. This is Jeff Oxford's musical take on my lyrics.

Two Family Guys with not nearly enough time on their hands.
We're Jeff Oxford & Tim Perrythe Oxford-Perry Project a couple of aspiring Grand Rapids, Michigan songwriters. Tim is the word guy and Jeff cranks out the music and studio production. We're both family guys, and for the most part our music has its origins in the maelstrom that is family life in the 21st century. The Basement Bytes is actually a collection of songwriting demos. We're not really interested in being performers, per se and would be quite content to let others record our material. In the meantime, The Basement Bytes stands as our musical kick-at-the-cat. Acoustically, basements aren't exactly the perfect place to record. But for creating, jamming and storytelling, they do just fine. We are pleased to present this home-built, computer-recorded, cellar-chilled musical chronicle for your listening pleasure. We hope you enjoy The Basement Bytes.

Lyrics
Verse 1: There was something always missing In a life that seemed so full An emptiness well hidden, but so large. She kept it under cover. Carefully concealed. Till the day it overwhelmed her and took charge. Chorus 1: She didn’t know how or where, She could show she cares Just had find out what her life was for She’s a little scared. And maybe unprepared. Looking for some peace…. To the core. Verse 2: The deep and crushing poverty The wilds of Paraguay People clinging to their very lives. So she joined in with some others Who just couldn’t turn away While the rest of the world stood idly by. Chorus 2: Now she knows just how and where, She can show she cares Figured out what her life was for Still a little scared. But with a heart prepared Went looking for her peace…. In the Corp. Bridge: Late at night she lets back in those memories of home Easy chairs and no despair, the life she’s come to know. It’s certain that she’ll miss it, but no one ever sees Her words fall soft as sunshine, but there’s thunder in her deeds. Chorus 3: Now she knows just how and where, She can show she cares Figured out what her love was for She’s no longer scared. Got a heart fully prepared Finally found her peace…. In the Corp.
