Story behind the song
The very first song I had ever written and had copyrighted. Written for the group 'Spirit Prayer' in 1978. Don't remember how it came about! SORRY!
Lyrics
V.1.. High on a hillside three crosses stood against the eastern sky. The man from Nazareth and on each side a thief! His mother stood below the cross and cried! King of the Jews was written above His head for all the world to see. Pilate washed his hands! No sin was in this man who died for me! V.2.. With nails in His hands! They crucified this man from Nazareth! Not a word for Him was good, as before the cross they stood, and He sagged in death! The sky became black! And it darkened their path! They began to run! Find a place to hide! For they knew they crucified God's only Son! Ch.. He came to earth to set us free! But, we nailed Him to a tree! We were afraid of this man from Nazareth! He went around doing good as His Father knew He would! But, we misunderstood this man from Nazareth! V.3.. So, on Galgotha's hill he finished His Father's will, and there He died! Knowing His destiny would be on Calvary's tree. Yet, willingly, He became the sacrifice! So, look upon His face! Feel the Saviors grace! Let Him into your life! Let Him have His way! Let Him come in today to end your sin and strife! Ch.. Yes, We misunderstood this man from Nazareth!
