1. mansion/castles...Manderlay is an old mysterious mansion that has had many strange
things happen withen its own walls in the recent history...for example, Maximum's wife
was recently found dead not to far from the home...connections between that mystery
and the eerie mansion can be extended as well as the connection to the mansion is
surronded by fog to make things not as "clearly seen" and rain to "wash away" all of
the imperfections and mysterious aspects happening
2. fog and rain...dark and dismall attributes that have meaning in them alone without
any assistance...the fog makes things hard to see...and the truth seems to be unclear
while the rain makes conditions murky and dark so the mysterys can flow together more
evenly
3. mysterious stranger...in a Gothic Romance dark mystery's are always a key factor in
the success of the theme...so a stranger that is not revealed immeditaely keeps those
unsolved ideas that are dark and unclear, strong and intact...could sync well with the
mystery not solved until the end idea for the mystery person is unclear just like the
fog and other settings
4. mystery not solved until very end...storys that are dragged out until the very end
and than flipped on an instant is another important factor...for example, the stranger
could be the mystery not solved until the end, and for all that is known...could be the
demented character as well as the stranger
5.demented character...a character that has problems, whether it be physical or mental,
that in change make someone believe that a "demon" has cursed a specific part of the
human being...for examples, the woman in Rebecca was mentally ill...and a little
pyschotic...but using other themes, this could be the stranger not known until the end
when the mystery is finally revealed
6.innocent or young naivé women...woman who ends up getting the problems of everything
when she is innocent of all harms in the first place...for example, the young woman
in the movie gets dragged into Maximum's problems of his wife just "dying"...and now
she had to deal with all of expectations of the previous wife even though she did not a
thing to deserve it
