Story behind the song
Based on a true event. Though at the time I did not know this. I wrote the song less than twelve hours after the event, in the early hours of the next day. God led me on this one for sure.
Lyrics
Down the path to Amy's garden were hanging plants of colored leaf. With tender hands she'd nurture them. Special care she took with each. She would softly sing and a hidden smile would come across her face. A song with bright and joyfull tones echoed through every unlit place. Her eyes would sparkle. Her cheeks would shine as from one to the other she'd go. With inner pride and a little girl awe, she'd watch her garden grow. I use to watch as she would work with small and delicate hands. She'd knead the soil with careful thought and carry out her little girl plans. With roses, tulips, daisies and shrubs, she loved them everyone. With a tearful 'goodnight' she'd turn out the light and weep when the day was done. Now the garden is empty. Weeds have overgrown. The door is locked to Amy's garden. The Lord has called her home. Down the path to Amy's garden were hanging plants of colored leaf. Her work here done, my Amy's gone. Lord, help me with my grief.
