Since receiving his first guitar at age 12 (a 1965 Silvertone) Ryan has been writing and playing music for his personal enjoyment for more than 30 years. After years of putting his music on assorted cassettes (and a 8 year layoff to take care of career and kids) Ryan put Pro Tools on an old computer in the back bedroom and began writing, playing and recording music again. It's a life-long hobby for him. Ryan plays guitar, bass and keyboards and uses a drum machine for the beats.

Story behind the song
The final analysis about the song is that it's about life during wartime -- when the war has become background noise. I recently got off an airplane in Atlanta and saw about 1,500 U.S. Army troops ready to go to Germany. The sight was sobering to me and inspired the first part of the song. The second part was inpired by a trip I took to Memphis, Little Rock, and Nashville. The third piece of the song it about my hometown and the trains that come through. The fourth part is a little waltz about reaching out and touching someone. It finishes up by revisiting the scene in Atlanta.
Lyrics
There is a man who looks just like me Getting on a plane, going overseas Many just likehim, sharing a voice Whatever, his future is our choice Let's learn from the past Hold it in our grasp Reject it, or celebrate Heritage is not excuse for hate Blacktop stretches as far as I can see The road's a friend to me The freight trains welcome midnight Like the songbirds greet the morning light The world outside your front porch screen It's what you want it to be It's what you want it to be It's what you want it to be The phone rings, I am with you A strange ghost from the past Haunts inside my receiver Lays a beautiful trap Tell me, where you're going Tell me, where you've been Tell me, something special Am I still your friend? There is a man who looks just like me Getting on a plane, going overseas Many just likehim, sharing a voice Whatever, his future is our choice
