Lyrics
It is clear from the accounts in the gospels that the disciples were slow to believe in the resurrection of Jesus. The empty tomb of itself was not enough to convince them. In fact what we find are many stories of how Jesus mysteriously yet clearly appeared to his followers. Paul lists many of these in 1Corinthians. The usual explanation for these stories is that they were hallucinations. But the evidence simply doesn’t fit that explanation. Jesus appeared not once but many times. He appeared not in one place but in many different places at different times of the day. He appeared to not just one person, but to many different people – on at least one occasion to over 500 people at the same time. And when he appeared he did so not as a ghostly apparition but as a real physical person who talked with them, taught them about the kingdom of God, ate and drank with them, invited them to touch him and on one occasion, at least, cooked breakfast for them. In addition anyone claiming to have seen Jesus could easily be proved wrong – a simple visit to the garden tomb would settle the issue. Except, of course, the tomb was empty. Many years ago a lawyer by the name of Frank Morison started to write a book that would disprove the resurrection of Jesus. This book was called, “Who moved the stone?” and it was a best seller for many years – I suspect some of you may well have read it.
